NUTRITION: What Should You Believe??

With so much contradictory information coming out all the time about nutrition, what should you believe? More to the point, what should you do if you want to preserve your health and the health of your family? First, make sure you eliminate all of the following from your diet completely: 1. White flour 2. White sugar (and commercial brown sugar too) 3. White rice 4. "Trans fats" (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, shortening) Note that hydrogenated oils show up EVERYWHERE. Start reading labels and you'll notice that prepared frozen dinners, baked goods like breads and cookies and even some alcoholic drinks (especially "coolers") are laced with this stuff. Then make sure you have lots of vegetables in you diet, particularly the green, leafy ones. You can eat salads, do stir fries and drink vegetable juice (preferably from your own blender or juicer). Whenever you can get good quality organic fruits and vegetables, do so. Whenever you can find meat that hasn't been filled with antibiotics and growth hormones, go for it. Always use whole grain breads and pasta, but try to limit your intake. Try to lower your insulin levels. Avoiding the "3 white devils" (white flour, white rice and white sugar) listed above will help a lot with that. Then limit your consumption of sweets. If you have a sweet tooth, at least try to avoid sweets with refined sugar. If you want something sweet, try making or ordering a fruit smoothie instead. Your best bet is to make each of these simple adjustments, one at a time, over the next few weeks. It's a matter of changing your shopping habits, your eating habits and even your cooking habits. Now here's the kicker!... There's lots of more sophisticated advice on diet we could give you, but trust me - none of it would help you if you don't have this much in place already. You must do this much first, before anything else. Supplements are great, for example, but there's no sense wasting your hard earned money on them if you're busy killing yourself in other ways. A little secret of warriorship: In all areas of human life, focussing on the most basic steps will give you 80% of your results. The flip side of this is that without the basics, you won't HAVE any results. If you can just do this much, you can be confident that you're on the road to improved health and that you've stopped eating the things that are harming you the most.
Wishing you the best of health,
